Robert S. Barnes ’47

Robert passed away in Naples, Florida on August 5, 2013. Bob is survived by his daughter, Betty (Kim) Koutsky, his grandsons, Brian Barnes and Kevin Hite, his great-grandson, Liam Barnes, and his sister, Viginia (Graydon) Long. Bob was preceded by his wife of 57 years, Mary Gallagher Barnes, and his daughter, Patti (Barnes) Follkie.

Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 23, 1922. Following his service in WWII, Bob graduated from MIT and received his PhD from Harvard in 1950. Bob settled in Olympia Fields, Illinois with Mary, whom he met working at his father’s drug store in Chicago, and he began his career at Standard Oil. Bob retired in 1987 as the Vice President of Research of the Amoco Division. Bob and Mary retired to Florida and were active at the Quail Creek Country Club in Naples.

Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society and the Quail Creek Relay For Life Team. Services will be at a later date in Illlinois.
