David R. Wadleigh ’38

NORTH CHATHAM — David R. Wadleigh, a resident of North Chatham since 1979, died on Sunday, August 21, 2011. He was born on April 23, 1915, and grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. He attended the Hackley School, and graduated from M.I.T. in 1938. He also attended the Harvard University Advanced Management Program in 1961. During World War II, he worked for Westinghouse, developing jet engines. After the war, he went to work at Scott Paper, primarily working in Research and Development, and he retired in 1979. After retirement, he and his wife, Nancy C. Wadleigh, who died in 2000, moved from Swarthmore, Penn., to North Chatham, and he became involved with the Eldredge Library in Chatham and was very instrumental in the building of the new wing. He also attended classes and writing groups at the library, which he enjoyed immensely. Besides his late wife, he is survived by his daughter Sally Wadleigh of Swarthmore, Penn., and his son Rob Wadleigh and his wife Marcy Woods of Marstons Mills. At his request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldredge Public Library, 564 Main St., Chatham, MA, or to the Hart Nautical Museum at M.I.T.
